Fae Yule Is Here!

Fae Yule has come to Rift. Last year I wasn't able to participate, or rather, I didn't have an active subscription. I'm enjoying the event, collecting snowflakes, riding on a sleigh while I smash through snowmen, doing fun daily quests, getting cool holiday loot!

Which means my leveling has slowed down. But it's no big rush, the event is fun and I want to collect as many goodies as I can. I still haven't touched the dimension vendor, I want a few things for the guild hall and my personal dimension. From what I gather, the event has multiple phases, I also read there will be a quest for a mount, one also drops randomly, no luck so far! I did manage to get the cuuuuutest corgi, Rudy. He's simply adorable, with this little, red nose and antlers!

The guild is going well, growing. Such a nice bunch of people. I really enjoy the guild and all of our members. It is probably the most interaction I've had in an MMO in quite sometime. I have been in guilds over the last year but nothing really felt like home. I'd say my EQ2 guild was the most welcoming in the past year, they still are happy to see me upon logging in, that did feel like home for awhile. But I don't know, maybe it is the community here in Rift, maybe it is the fact that I'm the one who started this guild. Maybe I'm making more of an effort? I don't think that is it, I always try to be chatty and friendly, as well as helpful. Maybe it is a combination of everything. I love it though. I'd like to set up some events that many levels can participate together in. I'm just so out of energy lately, perhaps in a month things will settle down after the holidays.

Last night I did a bit of work on the Laptop, it was in dire need of maintenance. It has been about a year since I really played anything on it. It isn't much of a gaming computer but I wanted something to mess around on in the living room, in the evenings. So, that took some time to fix. When I installed Rift and went to patch it, I got this yucky error (Error- 1009) which basically told me it was unable to connect and patch. Read up about it and everyone says- Format, format, format. I was not in the mood for that, no way. After a bit of work, some research and lots of time spent, well, it turns out it was a virus causing the issue, got it cleaned up and everything is all fine and dandy. I also had noted that the firewall settings were messed up and unable to be altered, glad I got it all fixed.

We also added a new member to our (RL) family, which has been keeping me busy too. No, not another kid! Those days are long gone! My son has had rats over the years and has missed having a small pet to keep him company (two cats and a dog aren't enough it seems), but I just wasn't up for another rat. Ours ran into so many health problems, and it was painful to watch them deteriorate over such a short lifespan as well. Thus we now have a ferret. It didn't help that I've always wanted one too, lol. As a child I would have done anything for one, I know how it is to really want a pet like that. His name is Gwin (from the Inkheart books, which he looks just like the ferret in the movie). He is the cutest little guy, he has bounds of energy as well. He's been fixed and his scent glands are removed, thankfully. While he has a strong smell, he doesn't stink the house up, like some I've seen years ago. So, busy, busy, busy days. Below is a pic of him, so hard to get him to sit still for a pic, one out of twenty!

That's it for today, safe adventures and all that!

Updates And More Updates! (Rift)

Trion continues to impress me more and more, the longer I play. When you don't play a game you might still hear about how a company does, or doesn't update a game and how much it adds new content on a regular basis. I've been gone awhile but I've heard how fantastic they were with content. While I'd sit in WoW for ages without new content, Rift was getting a lot of attention. I have more respect for a company that makes this a goal up front, instead of trying to keep up with newer games after many years of not caring about it, for fear of losing players. Better late than never I guess.

We've just had Storm Legion launch last month. We've also had many updates and fixes since then and next week, I'm guessing because holiday content is involved Dec 12 the website says now, we will get a new patch- Endless Eclipse! There will be a new raid, a new chronicle, and the holiday event. The holiday event will have instant adventures, so excited about that!

Earlier this week it was updated so that we no longer have to pay to train skills. Can I has my monies back please! Much needed change, if you ask me, they got quite expensive if you had more than one soul you wanted to keep up with. Some people are complaining on the forums, I think that's really silly. If you want to run to the skill trainer, run there and pretend or something. Don't ask that I have to keep handing that greedy guy my money, lol.

We also got a run speed increase yesterday, it is so nice. Pretty speedy and much appreciated. It isn't final if it will stay in the game but I really hope they stick with this. Also, prices on dimensions were dropped, the pricing to upgrade them was lowered as well, and the item count was boosted by 25%. Fantastic! I spent a small fortune on mine already but that's alright, now the other ones I want are cheaper. And the guild hall I want is half the price it was- 500p down from 1000. That is more reasonable to me.

(The guild is growing, we've gotten a few new members. Some cool people, exciting stuff. I'm so happy our little guild is starting to take off. Now we all just need to start doing guild dailies! Stellar on Faeblight if you need a laid back home!)

Lots of great changes, exciting content ahead, holiday stuffz too! More room in our dimensions and more access to them without worrying about putting too big of a hole in your wallet! Also there are some special holiday yule items this month, check them out here.

Hrmm.. What's this. Some dead guy with a battery and a journal? The quest was to get out of a hole I jumped into.

Second to last page in the journal.

Last page in the journal...

And this is where it led me. To the claws of Crucia!

Rift- Will I Stay In Telara?

The lovely Tempest Bay.

I've been back to Rift for almost a month, next week it will be a month technically. Normally if I'm not into a game, or it just isn't clicking, this is about the time I start to feel myself growing bored. However, Rift just seems to keep surprising me, and surprisingly I'm really wanting to stick with it for quite a while. The developers seem to really want to keep players happy, they have all sorts of activities for all sorts of players.

I'm not so much into raiding these days, I don't have the patience anymore, nor the drive. Maybe one day in the future I will. I don't always feel like grouping for dungeons, I just cannot sit still for long periods where I'm feeling 'locked into' a session. I often need to get up and afk for RL stuff, so it just doesn't work out. But with Rift I can still participate in activities with others; Rifts, IAs, small group content, outdoor raids, chronicles. This caters to players like me. I love it. It is like a game that has evolved to offer content exactly for me. Add housing on top of this and I'm quite smitten.

Last night I found out that with Storm Legion the wardrobe slot now lets you wear ANY type of gear. For instance I have a warrior specific plate breastplate that my mage has on in the wardrobe slot. That is SO freaking awesome! This opens up so many alternate options for appearance gear! Very exciting, and I just found out after selling tons of plate over the last few weeks, lol. /facepalm

Fae Yule is on test now, I didn't get to participate last year so I am really excited about it this year. It seems new quests have also been added. Lots of good info about the event here. House decorations this year too, yay! I am excitedly awaiting the event XD

Is the leveling in SL too slow? I think it is alright. I didn't level yesterday, I was enjoying my birthday but I managed to poke in to decorate for a bit, hehe. More on that in a few. I'm already halfway through level 51. While it is slower than some games I'd say it isn't horrible. Once you start doing things, it starts adding up. I find myself doing a lot of invasion events, IA's here and there (I MISS THE LOWBIE IAs) questing, and I even have been doing some chronicles. Which at 51, even the two player chronicles are quite easy, and a nice change of pace. I did my first one over the weekend and made a few plat with it, plus it was real fun. I love chronicles, they are a welcome addition in my book. I am glad to finally have been able to try them out. I have read about them in the past wishing I was high enough to jump in and try them. But I'm not dreading the levels, they seem to just be going as I do things in the game. I really blew through the levels all the way to 50, so I suppose it had to slow down sometime ;)

Decorating... I actually learned that the starter dimensions, even if you max out your item count, have far less of a max item count than many of the others. I think it is 150 items, which you spend about 50 plat maxing that out. Instead you could just buy one of the 50 plat dimensions and max it at 400 items. The more expensive ones have 600 or so, maybe 1000, it has been a bit since I last looked. So I saved up 50 plat and bought a new dimension. It has a tiny house so I built a big one, I call it 'The Compound' because it looks like, well, some big imposing compound, lol. I've put trees around it, we'll see how it turns out with more furniture and (YULE!!) decorations. All in all I was so ecstatic to purchase a new, bigger, dimension. I will share pictures and maybe take a video later in the week.

Last but not least, in today's post- I love the fact that I don't have to reroll or play an alt to try out a different playstyle. I have been switching from my chloro/necro build to my harbinger build. It has been very refreshing, I don't even need to switch out gear sets for the melee spec from caster (like I did in WoW with my druid), which is amazing in my opinion. While I enjoy the talent changes in WoW, I really do- I like that Rift still has so many options for me to pick and choose from. I can tailor specs to my specific wishes. That in itself is pretty amazing, in the day and age of cookie cutter specs and builds, I like to think out of the box, do my own thing, I have the room to do that here in Rift.
