Thoughts on WoW- End Game

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial weekend, those of you here in the USofA. Those of you elsewhere, still hope you had a nice weekend. I planned to write sooner, but I got a nasty case of food poisoning and that took the wind out of my sails for a few days. Ugh...

Still chugging along in WoW. I'm gearing up my Druid, but I picked up working on the lock as well. She is my favorite and to me balance... for lack of better word... sucks. So, if I'm not raiding or healing in a group, the druid is quite boring. I have gotten really good at kiting things around, fleshing the class out, but why bother when my lock (or even DK) can do so much more with half the effort?

LFR hasn't been that kind to my warlock but I am slowly gearing her up. LFR is fast to queue as a healer and the loot seems to rain on her.  I really hate the queues as DPS, so I am torn on who to really focus on. I love my druid but balance is so clunky and poorly designed. I really wish I could heal with the warlock, that would solve everything, haha. Or maybe Blizzard could actually make balance not so heavily gear dependant?

The valor caps annoy the hell out of me. It is like an endless carrot you can't quite reach, I don't push myself with daily factions, they may get there, they may not. I just don't care. I think this whole expansion has added a ton of things to do but it really feels much of it is gated, strung out to keep us playing. I just think there really needs to be some sort of alternative from all the gating on grinds and caps. I'll happily grind out things in big chunks, I don't like to string it out every day of the week.

On top of everything I am always wondering what will change next with my characters, which will be nerfed or have the playstyle totally changed, the rug pulled out beneath me. Not a really cheery post but these are the things that have me concerned about WoW these days.

I crave some stability with WoW. I'm tired of seeing tweets from Ghostcrawler, seeing that he's thinking of changing this class, tweaking that class. After this many years you'd think we'd have SOME balance, right?

I've gotten my DK to 86, let me say frost is.... amazing. Wow, just slicing through mobs, I don't think it was even a fraction as easy with any of my other characters. It wasn't hard but it just took so long to kill things. I struggled so much with the druid, the closer to 90 the worse it got. Just doesn't seem right to be so overpowered, heh. Crazy. I'll be leveling the DK slowly on the side, no rush. Just another character to gear up all over again. I still have a long ways to go with my others.

I am still enjoying WoW, regardless. I just have concerns for long term. I always know if I log into EverQuest, my characters are not going to morph into something else, they are pretty much the same as they were when I made them years.. and years.. and years ago. Anyhow, we've also been playing around with the Brawler's guild. That is sort of fun, until someone yells something out, making fun of someone. Have not had it happen to me, but seen it happen, not cool. Farming, rares, pets and all that jazz. I need more bank space. I REALLY need more bank space.

That's it for today, safe adventures!

A Change of Pace

My first LFR... Awww.

Lots going on! Guild Wars is basically going to be on autopilot, kind of sad to hear that. I mean look at EverQuest, it is still going strong beside the sequel. Guild Wars still has a decent population, whenever I log in, tons of people in the towns and cities. I suppose it doesn't surprise me after the sunset of City of Heroes. Not very impressed. But, I guess at least it is still there... For now.

Neverwinter has some goodies for accounts created before, last weekend or so. For all the trouble with the economy, a seven hour rollback and whatever else, gifts in the mail. I sort of took a break after I've seen how much needs to be checked into with people doing 'stuff they shouldn't', exploiting or utilizing things that were unintended, you know, that stuff. I think I will wait until things settle down, I play so little and when I do, my time is valuable. I don't want the one time I play through the week to be rolled back on me! I'm sure it will smooth out soon.

Dragons Prophet goes into open beta sooooon! Keep your eye on that, housing, dragons, lots of nifty things to look forward to. Oh, and the dragon packs are 20% off now. You can find it all on the website. I did get into closed beta, I just have not had much time to really get into it, I plan on looking more tomorrow.

5.3 hit WoW this week. I am enjoying it. I actually got up off my butt and started gearing up. I hate waiting in queues, like last week, I wanted to buy something with justice. I needed more. I didn't want to wait in the queue so I went as a healer for my first heroic, lol. It went decently. Then I decided to work on the druid as resto, because nobody has a healer with our bunch. You can always use a healer, plus I have loved healing over the years. I really do love to heal. And you know what? It really isn't as painful as I thought it would be. Granted there is a LOT of moving around which bugs the hell out of me. But that is with ANY class/spec. ANNOYING for those of us with wrist problems.

So, yeah, been doing heroics, scenarios, and... LFR. I've never done a looking for raid...raid. I hear how horrid they are but so far they are a bit messy but not something I can't deal with. It isn't exciting as those old classic groups, I don't think anything will be that exciting. But I do enjoy healing and it is fun to be actually doing content that is relevant to the expansion again.

The raids and groups are sometimes silent. The conversation isn't there, it is weird but I cannot complain. Raiding in a pretty quick manner, group formed and ported in automatically, it is like the McDonalds of raiding! Drive through raiding. Burger King style, have it YOUR way, now you can raid and get gear for your OFFSPEC. Raid YOUR way! I like the ease, do it when I have time, so I appreciate the fact it is there. I was saying, recently, I didn't know if I'd ever raid again. If you asked me a week ago I'd have said no. But... I wanted to gear up to help everyone and I'm glad I did. Though now that I have a healer, everyone seems to be off doing their own thing :( Which makes it all kind of, well, feeling rather pointless.

The druid is not very fun to me as balance, she requires a lot of kiting and rooting to kill Pandaria champions, much more demanding than the lock. But it isn't as bad as it once was, now that I have better gear and more of an idea of what I should be doing, lol. I learned root is a wonderful tool, not that I had to use it much in the past, I do now! I like the idea of balance but the execution is lacking.

5.3 brought some changes to the way the the talent Force of Nature works. It is really great. Some may not like it but it is like free heals (as resto) and those stack up. The cooldown was changed, it is not on GCD either and  it has charges. These little trees are nice. They are great with spike damage. As balance they root the mob when they first cast, then do some moderate dps. I like having them, also three charges that build up over twenty seconds. I can't complain, I think these are a great addition to how mechanics of the druid flow.

Oh, new quests, new story, new weekly, new easy epics! Yeah, 5.3 brought in some cool stuff, will be fun to see how it all unfolds. Start the quest in the vale, check your mailbox! Leads to some cool stuff, like a weekly where the mobs have some nifty drops like epic armor that can be made into any class armor or sold to other players, also a nice 24 slot bag! The armor is a reclolor of classic T1, for Death Knights it is a recolor of their starter set, the one you leave newbie land with. Don't forget the 200 valor for the quest, not too bad.

Other than that I was puttering around in Vanguard a bit. I made a Bloodmage, which I absolutely love. I slowed down playing over the last few days but I am enjoying playing when I can. The game hitches with me at times, but I think that is because the game is best run on an SSD. From what I read, the game accesses more local files more so than most MMORPGs. Makes sense, it smooths out once an area has loaded, but that answers a lot of questions I had about performance.

I do wish content would roll out more so for the game. I absolutely love playing the game but end game seems rather narrow. Is it just a game to roll many alts with? I'd like to see SOE stop throwing out so many half baked games and polish what they have. Yes, I said it, I'm not that impressed with some of the newer stuff. I mean if this is how you let some of your current games sit, what makes me think you're going to better with EverQuest Next? If it stutters and wasn't what everyone had hopes, will they stick it on life support too? Don't get me wrong, I am a big SOE fan but it really is a sad story with Vanguard Saga of Heroes. It could be worse, right? I mean at least it isn't going on autopilot, like GW is!

I don't think the flagship will actually be put on life support but it makes you wonder. But look at Free Realms, most of the cool stuff is put in the cash shop, the announcements for activities are basically gone, did their community manager go missing or something? Updates are few and far between. But... I am off topic now.

I enjoy my time in Telon. It is a bit rough sometimes, the beauty of the world is relaxing and the atmosphere is just... different. I feel fully immersed in the fantasy setting when I play. Unlike another game I play, lol. I really feel as if I am out there exploring in a game, for a change. It is a great feeling.

Anyhow, I hope to stop being so slack with posting. I'm still so much busier these days but I have TONS of things in my head, for when I do post. I always WANT to, but actually sitting down and writing is another story. Have a great weekend!

Does that chicken have a... guitar?

Black drake, the twilight I always seem to lose on!

Just a pretty shot in Duskwood, while doing archeology.

A sunset.

5.3 quest, do it! You get some nice epic bootz! Unless you have better, great for alts.

Vol' jin, he brings us a weekly quest! He's one of my favorite Horde leaders. So Awesome to see him in action.

Lookie what we got! Wow Insider has a great article showcasing this item and how to get it- here

I FINALLY get the smite illusion, on my druid, lol.

We're so pretty!
Twilight.

Questing, with a vanity pet and a cool illusion. I LOVE illusion items (OMG- ONES THAT DON'T USE COOL DOWNS!!)

Lucky day with the lockbox, got my new Bloodmage a nifty flying mount!

Excuse me, have you seen my clothes? I cannot seem to find them! (Illusion bug, hilarious)

Mah clothes! Got to find mah clothes! I guess we now know what everyone has on under their robes in Telon. They're robes, not kilts >.>

A lovely view.

My little Bloodmage!

Invis! I loooooove it!! I will actually use a ground mount with it, heh.

A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words

I still have yet to figure out how to take screenshots. Tonight I'm a little too tired and a little too lazy to edit the screenshot.

CoS
City of Steam is proving to be a very fun game. I play it in spurts so I don't even notice the energy cap. I also really delve into the dungeons I run, looking to open every chest, bust open every crate and kill every single mob. I hit ten yesterday, I also managed to nab a motorcycle mount. I saved my money and didn't buy anything. It all adds up and it is a very cool mount. I love it!

I have not spent a dime on the game, having a blast. I do want to spend something on it eventually, to support the game. Probably a cosmetic item since the ones I have in game have a time limit on them, blah. I really enjoy the game, I have a lot of fun each time I play, I keep looking for new goals to work toward. It is a nice game to relax and unwind while playing. I still have yet to go to the wilderness area, I look forward to seeing how that is (open world, not instanced). I think spending some time out in the open world will be fun!

WoW
I'm still wandering around in the world of Azeroth. Mainly on my lock. I have been playing my Druid, doing old content here and there.I also healed a heric on her, that wasn't very fun to be honest. So much has changed, it doesn't feel like the same class I adored healing with years ago in Wrath of The Lich King. It feels clunky, weaker. I'm sure with gear it would get better but I guess I just prefer things to be more skill based instead of gear based. I don't think I'll heal (random groups) in WoW anytime soon. We made it, had a very, very overgeared tank, no problems at all really, I just think I'd rather DPS or do scenarios. Maybe part of it is that I don't find heroics very fun anymore. Same ol' same ol'.

We've been gathering some more achievements and transmog things, Dire, my son, brothers and I. Still having fun, swapping out characters here and there, mostly the lock is needed though. It is fun to have a steady group to play with, I enjoy that. If I work on my druid we can have our own group to run heroics with, so that might be a little more interesting. I'm also wanting to level my priest to 90, though the thought of leveling a fourth character to 90 sort of makes me cringe, I might wait until after 5.3, when the xp is reduced from 85-90.

Other Stuff
Rift is going F2P. I can't say it is some shocker. After trudging half way through the latest expansion (Storm Legion), I lost my drive to play the game. It was not as fun as the previous levels had been. I'm glad I'll be able to log in whenever, however, I'm still subscribed for almost a year still.... I sort of feel cheated, lol.

I haven't played Neverwinter for a few days, I still am having a blast. I have been so busy IRL! When I finally get some time to game it usually goes to WoW. BUT tonight I plan on playing a tiny bit of CoS and NW for a bit then... Vanguard Saga of Heroes.

I have really, really been missing Vanguard. I was thinking about rolling a new character, a Paladin. I know, I know, will kaozz ever get to the cap in that game?! I hope to one day, I just want to try a few other classes, see how I like them. I miss the pace of the game, things are harder in some ways but more laid back in others. I miss the music, the scenery, the world of Telon.

I really hope things slow down soon, but there is just always something that needs/has to be done. Like now... I need to run a certain teenager out to the store because apparently he is dying of thirst and only Coke will quench that thirst, lol. Have a great week, peeps!

The title? Well if my posts are a bit short on words these days, let's let the pictures do their job ;)

Dire and I, he's back on the alliance with me :)

Oh... why can't I be a Night Elf warlock??!

Combat!

Doing some old heroics that Necro needed.

Love this zone, one of the cataclysm heroics.

I thought you died, Illidan... I specifically remember killing you.

I'm a dude, yo.

Angelic watcher. Ok, it sounded nicer than lowbie who will die if they get too close to the boss!

Necro flying me through outlands on my priest.

FINALLY my transmog set is finished!

Fun in Naxx 25.

Waiting on the rest of the group.

New druid transmog.

Yes, I did kill you, Illidan... Again, just for good measure. Heri got his warglaive tonight!

(Open) Beta Time!

Lots of betas this month! Dragons Prophet is in closed beta, which I managed to snag a beta key, thanks to an awesome friend keeping me in mind! I can't talk about that now though. Also City of Steam has gone into open beta, as of yesterday. I've really wanted to get a good look at that, I love all things steampunk! And, of course, Neverwinter open beta, which I wanted to talk more about today.

City of Steam
I saw this last minute, yesterday, I had forgotten that I'd read somewhere about the open beta starting. I wanted to pop in for a few and managed to get sucked in for longer than I had intended. It is really a tight little indie game! I like the look and feel, it has charm, though not cutting edge graphics, I like it as it is. The game has a decent UI, the mouse is free, not locked or causing the screen to rotate when moved, which is a huge plus for me. It drives me up the wall when a game does this!

I like the combat, the quests, the whole steampunk vibe. The music is quite awesome! There is already a cash shop, though it does look a bit steep in pricing. I saw a few things I'd like to pick up if I do stick with the game, which I really want to, but I have to see how things go after level ten. One of the things I like, thus far, is how mana and health regenerate at a decent rate.

What seems to be the catch with this game (there is always a catch with F2P isn't there...sigh) is that you rely on energy to run dungeons. This game is a dungeon running MMO, a dungeon crawler. Why would you limit how much a person can run? Bots, farmers? Eh, I think that is too harshly punishing your legitimate players, the ones you want to stick around. Now, I can't say I ran out of energy, I haven't played long enough to, you also gain energy every thirty minutes. You can also go into the wilderness when you run out of energy, mobs can drop energy (or even purchase it from the cash shop, that is limited also though). How much? I've read varied reports on the forums, so I am still not sure. The wilderness is basically an open world, unlike dungeons. You can quest, grind, kill rare bosses and such, with random people alongside you. I think my biggest beef is the energy, I could see myself playing this game a lot, but just how much will I be hindered because of energy? Is it even enough to worry about? I just don't know at this point.

Getting past the energy deal, I really like this game. It is a LOT of fun. The controls are smooth, the UI feels clean. I've also seen people complain about the view, how it is weird, sort of Diablo style camera angle. You can toggle that, where you can look up at the sky also. It is in the bottom right hand of the screen, camera toggle option. Makes the game feel much better. You also have multiple weapons. A 1h and shield, dual wielding, and a two hander. You can toggle these by selecting the little icons (which appear as 1h, 2h, 1h/shield) in the bottom right hand corner. You just have to look for them!

The game is also a browser based game, quick to jump into, no large download before starting. Very easy and painless, just make an account and go. If you're looking for something fun and lighthearted, this seems a fantastic choice. Plus, what have you got to lose for trying it? It's free. Overall I give this a big thumbs up, with hopes the company takes a second look at the energy system, I can see myself playing this title on a regular basis.

Neverwinter
I have been really looking forward to Neverwinter for some time. I don't do well with hype. It is sort of my ADD tendency to either be: Now or NOT NOW. If a game is throwing out weekly updates about something I can't play, I don't tend to follow it very well, because, well, it's not now. I'll get to it when it is here... now. So while I heard about Neverwinter I didn't follow it too closely. So everything is pretty fresh and new to me. I enjoy reading about a game as I play it.

I didn't know just how much I'd like Neverwinter, since it is an action based game. One where you have to get out of the bad stuff, and the camera swings when you move the mouse... yuck. Aside from those two things I found myself really enjoying the game.

Neverwinter is a pretty game. The models are decent, not super awesome but they have charm, I can deal with them, I've seen far worse. The landscape is pretty. The music is, different. It does remind me of Champions Online, heh. It is just... different.

What really pulls me in is the RPG feel. I enjoy the questing and heading into dungeons. I like the idea of companions, I like taking my companion and delving into an adventure, exploring nooks and crannies for treasure chests. It is all quite fun.

I enjoyed it so much I bought one of the founders packs, the cheaper one. I couldn't see myself paying two hundred dollars for a founders pack, even if I did want the race that came with it. I just thought it a bit expensive for my tastes. I'm happy enough with my wolf companion and other goodies I've gotten.

I like the combat a lot, the whole no mana thing is cool. Cool downs on skills are easier to manage in many ways. The gameplay feels solid for the most part. Not as much moving around as some action games, but it is still there. I don't mind it on a lower scale... as much.

All in all, I really have enjoyed Neverwinter thus far. I think the foundry will add a lot of play into this game. The cash shop is a bit steep on some things, also there are a lot of things people do not like being in the cash shop, like enchants. I'm still up in the air on it. I don't mind supporting a game but I hope it doesn't become a fiasco much like Allods online cash shop was. Overall I'm pretty glad I picked up the founders pack, I give this game a thumbs up as well, I plan on playing it for some time!

Catch Up!

Babyseat, WoW style. Lawl.

We're finally moved and settled into the new house. It is quite large, we finally have a room dedicated to the computers! Something I have wanted for a long time. After ten years of living in apartments- this is Dire and my first house together. It is lovely and my mother is my next door neighbor. While very thankful and happy, there is just so much to do. Everytime I turn around I am on my feet doing something else. I was over exhausted for a few days there but I'm much better now.

That being said, I have made time to play my games the past couple of days. Tonight I decided not to log right in and write instead, well by now it is more so the early AM, still going, heh. Tomorrow I have a long list of things to do but I wanted to jot down some things while they were fresh in my mind still.

WoW
WoW is going well. My brothers are both approaching 90, high 80's as I write this. Dire is still playing, but my son is more so into LoL, Minecraft and the new SimCity game lately. I haven't had any time to play my alts, think I will leave whatever I was working on, well, for when I have more time. Mostly I've been puttering around gathering nifty fun items.

I managed to grab the locket that gives the illusion (Kalytha's Locket) of a ghostly Night Elf. It has a short cool down and lasts twice as long as the CD. I love it, I can be a NE lock, lol. I also nabbed the gnome who drops the illusion pirate hat, which turns you into a ghostly gnome. You have to wear the hat but it is fun to wear in town.

My biggest accomplishment, as far as illusion items go, would be the AiLi's Skymirror, which gives you the illusion of your target for ten minutes. Very awesome, sadly it has an hour cool down, fun to play with though. She has been the only MoP Champion to give me any trouble. She does nasty damage and HAS to be interrupted when healing or she heals to full. Really it is all about timing with this fight, when to move, when to interrupt. Not a fun fight but I got it down and killed her the other day, she dropped the mirror, yay!! As soon as she died another player swooped down, I was there at the right time.

There are many that still evade me, champions that is, but I check often and hope to get more of these cool items. They add a lot of flavor to the game. My poor bags are bursting with items! Below is a list I took from this post on WoW Head, it offers a list of many illusion items. You can also find a complete list here.

Other than that, I finally finished up my farm with the Tillers. That was exciting. It took me long enough, lol. I'm happy to have everything opened up. Now I am working on other factions as I can, one thing at a time.

Neverwinter
I finally had a chance to try the latest MMO out: Neverwinter. I play a lot of PWE games so I know that the cash shop will tie in a good bit but I think they are pretty decent on a lot of content. Levels and such are never gated which is nice.

I didn't have long to play but my impression of the game was decent. I think combat felt solid, the game looked good. The cinematic was pretty nifty. I like the idea of companions, the foundry sounds sweet. It is a pretty game too.

Things I didn't like? I thought the whole another 'action MMO game' felt.... Flimsy. It plays like it is ported from a console. I don't like that. I like traditional feel like EQ and WoW, where you have free mouse movement across the screen. If I wanted action type games, I'd play console games. But that seems to be the big thing now, though I don't see any of them making a huge splash. That is my honest opinion, just personal preference I suppose. The game 'options' seemed lacking as well (at a glance, will have to look more later), all I saw were two scroll bars for video. Meh. The character models were not all that impressive, they were not bad though. Kind of charming thus far, just not super modern.

All in all it really seems a decent game. I just don't care for action+MMORPG. But... I want to give this title more time, when I get more time. It does show some promise. I do like Cryptic and PWE, so I think the game could really shine. I've waited a long time for it to come out, glad it has finally arrived.

Random Thoughts
I've been missing Vanguard Saga of Heroes for awhile. I always miss that game. Like something in the wind blows my way and I hear Telon, whispering for me to come back. I really want to sit down and play it some soon. I always miss Vanguard.

I am patiently waiting Dragon's Prophet as well. I think that looks fantastic, I'm just wondering how 'action-y' it will be. I like a lot of ideas the game offers from what I've seen thus far.

Other than that, I just don't have the time for anything else at the moment. I need to take more time for this blog, because I still love writing and sharing about games. Every now and then I think about closing up shop but I'd miss it too much. My other blog suffers, but one of these days I'll get back to it. This is where my heart is, and hopefully where it will remain for many more years. Have a great week, peeps.

Screenshot time!

Incomplete transmog set, two robes fail to drop for this set. Every. Single. Week... Ugh.

Hozen Beach Ball illusion. Gives a summer beach outfit look.

Night Elf Illusion.

Sunwell.

More Sunwell.

Yeah.. More...

....Sunwell.

Hanging out in IF with Heri.

Exploring. Love this.

Flying through the sky with Necro.

Finally completed my BC raid achievement, we finished up Hyjal today. I really hate this zone, all the WAVES get annoying.

Playing around with illusion item, hanging out with the bankers, lol.

Fire Breathing dragon/warlock.

A new transmog set, my bank is over capacity. I really cannot farm more sets for much longer. This is the Maleficent set, jumping causes the wings to pop out. You have to show the helm graphic for them to.
